JAlbum Project (.jap) Files

Note: This page has not been updated to reflect the changes in JAlbum 7.0

JAlbum project (.jap) files are used to store the values of JAlbum and BluPlusPlus variables. These variables are used to give values to parameters that allow the user to make choices that influence the appearance of generated albums (see setting variables). The ability to store variable values for future use is extremely useful.

There are two principal kinds of .jap files:

  • hints.jap—This file comes bundled with skins and is used by the skin author to specify the desired default values for JAlbum and skin user variables. While it is possible for the end user to change a hints.jap file, it may be wiser to use a “user defined” file. An example hints.jap file can be found here. hints.jap contains a handy list of all BluPlusPlus user variables (those variables that begin ‘skin.’ are BPP user variables).
  • user_defined_name.jap—A user can create a .jap file (with any name) to store a JAlbum “state” for later recall. A “state” is a snapshot of the choices made on all of the JAlbum windows (the input and output folders, checkboxes checked or cleared, values to variables, etc.). By opening a previously saved JAlbum state, a user can avoid having to manually re-enter all of the choices made in a previous session.

Creating a JAlbum project file

To save a project file, select one of the “Save Project...” options from the File menu.

To restore a previous JAlbum state, open a previously saved project file.

“New project” can be used to clear the previously set values of all variables.
